The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) is an executive Agency of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). HMRC is a Data Controller (Registration number: Z9034148) under the Data Protection Act 1998.
This means the VOA has a legal duty to protect the confidentiality of taxpayer information. We take all reasonable steps to protect any information you submit to us, either electronically or in hard copy, in accordance with legislation such as the Data Protection Act 1998.
- We hold information for the purposes of taxes and other statutory functions assigned to us by Parliament. The information we hold may be used for any of the VOA’s functions.
- We may receive information about you from other public sector bodies, such as other government departments and agencies and local authorities. We may check the information we receive from them, and also from you, with what we already hold.
- We may provide information to other government departments and agencies and local authorities, but only if the law permits us to do so, to check the accuracy of information, to prevent or detect crime and to protect public funds.
Our website and your privacy
Some areas of this site require you to actively submit information (such as when you make an appeal against your property’s rateable value). You will be informed at each stage about what information is required and what is optional.
Some of this information may be personal (information that can be uniquely identified with you, such as your full name, address, email address, phone number etc). We only collect such information when you choose to supply it to us and we will protect it in line with the Data Protection Act 1998.
We also use log files generated by our web servers to analyse site usage and statistics but the files do not identify any personal information. Log file analysis helps us to understand usage patterns on our website and to make improvements to our service.
