Rateable value and water rates

You may receive a water bill that uses a rateable value to calculate your water charges. These are the historic rateable values held by your water company.

Why have I been charged on my rateable value?

Many water bills are still based on old rateable values that pre-date the introduction of council tax and business rates. These rateable values are held by the water company and are not maintained by us. You can find out more about rateable value and water charges at Ofwat.

Can the VOA change the rateable value used for my water bill?

We have no control over the rateable values held by the water companies. You should contact your water company.

A change in your current rateable value or council tax band will not affect the rateable value used to calculate your water bill.
