Bed and Breakfast accommodation

Answer:

If part of a property is occupied as living accommodation then that part will be assessed for council tax instead of business rates.

Examples of this include:

  • the owner's accommodation within a B&B
  • the staff quarters of a hotel
  • the flat above a shop or pub.

The part of the property assessed for council tax will not be assessed for business rates. You will not pay both taxes on the same part of the property.
