You are on the rating appeal help page for:

We only occupy part of what we are being charged for.

This type of issue can often be resolved by contacting your local valuation office. You will need to find your property first, if you haven′t already done so.

Whether you can appeal on these grounds depends on how the property is being occupied.

If the unoccupied part of the property which you own or rent cannot be let separately then we have to set the rateable value for the whole property.

If you do not own or rent the unoccupied part of the property, or it is capable of being let as a separate unit and attempts have been made to let it separately then we may split the property.

  • The occupied part of the property may have its rateable value adjusted
  • The empty part of the property may be eligible for empty property rate relief.

If you do choose to appeal on these grounds then you should mention the date that part of the property became empty.
