Part of the property is now exempt from rating.
This type of issue can often be resolved by contacting your local valuation office. You will need to find your property first, if you haven′t already done so.
You can appeal if part of your property now qualifies as exempt from business rates. You will need to provide reasons why you think this is the case.
The most common types of exempt property include:
- agricultural land and buildings, including fish farms
- use of buildings for the training or welfare of disabled persons
- buildings registered for public religious worship and church halls.
A full list of the exempt types of property can be found in Schedule 5 of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 .
You should mention any changes, including the date they took place, in your appeal.
