This type of issue can often be resolved by contacting your local valuation office. You will need to find your property first, if you haven′t already done so.
You can appeal if you think your property is derelict. You will need to provide reasons why you think this is the case.
When we value property we assume that it is maintained and in a reasonable state of repair. This ensures fairness by treating all property in the same way.
For us to consider your property to be derelict, it must be
- Incapable of occupation, and
- Beyond economic repair.
We will not consider a property to be derelict if it is in a poor state of repair but still capable of being occupied.
You should contact us before submitting an appeal if :
- Your property is in a poor state of repair to discuss if we can reduce the rateable value
- Your property is under-going major renovation.
